| The following blog has been contributed by William E. Mayes who recently built a house in Mazatlan, Sonora.
Having just recently finished and moved into a new home in Mazatlan, I have been trully amazed at the transition from a construction lot to a home of my own design and built for the most part to the specifications and manner that I communicated to my builder.
He was able to pretty well meet my wishes and any deficiencies are mostly do to the fact I did not speak Spanish and he knew little English. The fact that I could not remain on sight and in Mazatlan and was only able to come down for a week at a time did not help matters.
I found the notary and the bank to be very professional and the paperwork done by both parties was outstanding and met all of Mexico's legal requirements. I have established a bank account and purchased a Mexican licensed automobile and both bank personnel and car dealership staff were very polite and extremely helpful.
Utilities have not been the nightmare I thought they might be and even cable services were with few problems. The workers I have hired since the house was finished, have been hardworking, honest and fair in their prices. I learn more each day as I dwell in Mexico and am happy to be an "expat".
I have not met a single American or other foreigner who is unhappy living in Mexico and I find the medical, dental, and general shopping services quite sufficient. The food - meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables are great. Mazatlan's beach is beautiful - night and day! The dawns and sunsets are spectacular.
I am looking forward to having friends and family visit as often as they can. Thank you Mexico for allowing me to share your country, culture, resources, people and freedom. I look forward to many more days of leisure and travel in my new home land.
