Museum of Modern Art Mexico City

The Museum of Modern Art was designed by Pedro Ramirez Vazquez, a celebrated and world wide recognized Mexican architect who also designed the Estadio Azteca (Azteca Stadium) a two time host of the Soccer World Cup (1970 and 1986) which holds the largest number of seats in the world (105,064) and the Anthropology Museum among others. The building itself as well as its gardens are worth the visit.

 

 

Inside the Museum Of Modern Art Mexico City

The Museum of Modern Art is known for having the best permanent exhibition of painters and sculptors from the modern Mexican art movement. It also features some of the most important temporary exhibitions of national and international modern art in the world. Representing the Mexican muralist movement are significant works by the three greats: Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros.

 

The main building is a round, two-story structure with a central staircase. Two of the museum's four spaces showcase the permanent collection of art from Gelsen Gas, Frida Kahlo, Olga Costa, Diego Rivera, david Alafro Siqueiros, Jose Clemente Orozco, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Eleonora carrington, Rufino Tamayo, Vicente Rojo, Jose Luis Cuevas, Francisco Toledo and Vladimir Cora. The musuem's surrounding gardens exhibit a representation of modern sculptures.

 

The Museum of Modern Art is located in Ave. Paseo de la Reforma and Gandhi, Bosque de Chapultepec, Delegación Miguel Hidalgo in front of the Museo de Antropologia (Anthropology Museum) and the Museo Tamayo (just two blocks away from the Diana Fountain if going from Las Lomas to Mexicos City Center). It is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
