Mexico has traditionally been a very centralized country so living at the tip of the world’s longest peninsula, far from the nation’s capital, can mean giving up many of the comforts of civilization or paying much more for necessities. Nevertheless, every day, Mexico Highway 1, which dissects the peninsula from North to South, brings more infrastructure.

Cabo San Lucas is one of three destinations in the Los Cabos area – the others are San José del Cabo and the so-called “Corridor”: 20 miles of resorts along the main highway.

Several important factors makes real estate in Can San Lucas in-demand: its relative proximity to the American West; more direct flights; and the ease with which Americans can drive their cars to the area (as opposed to the rest of Mexico bar Sonora, where drivers need a special permit beyond the 20 mile free zone along the border). Many baby boomers looking for warm climes are drawn to the region and credit is available for Americans, in dollars, with low interest rates even on properties that have “fideicomiso” (“trust”) status. It is also a hugely popular area with second and third generation middle-class Mexican-Americans look for second homes in the land of their ancestors. It's popularity with tourists means a second home can be rented out when not in use.
