Going Out in Ciudad Juarez

Print E-mail
ImageCiudad Juarez provides many sources of enjoyment for both residents and visitors, including fine restaurants, night clubs, bull fights, soccer games, traditional rodeos, dog races, polo grounds, golf, car racing, shopping malls, old city markets, modern art and historical museums, as well as many historical sculptures and buildings.

La Misíon de Nuestra Señora Guadalupe
The oldest structure on the border, La Misíon de Nuestra Señora Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission), was completed in 1668 and remains in remarkably good condition today.

Avenida 16 de Septiembre (which becomes Paseo de la Republica east of Avenida de las Americas) connects the old and new tourist areas. Visitors will find many of the city's top restaurants and mansions (including the home of Juan Gabriel) here.

Avenida 16 de Septiembre leads east to Avenida Lincoln and Avenida de las Americas, which both end at the Bridge of the Americas. This bridge spans the Chamizal parks on both sides of the Rio Grande. The Chamizal area was locked up in a boundary dispute for more than a century; and, as a result of a 1963 treaty, the land was set aside for recreational and cultural uses.

Avenida Lincoln, with its fine shops, provides a much more sophisticated first impression of the city than Avenida Juárez. It is where you'll find the famous statue of Abraham Lincoln, a contemporary of Benito Juárez. The monument of the American president is the only one of its kind outside of the United States. The avenue leads to the Zona ProNaf, home of the city's Museum of Fine Arts (Museo de Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes) and the Plaza de las Americas mall. The area also offers many of the city's top nightclubs.

Shopping

Probably the most popular supermarkets in Ciudad Juarez are the S Mart stores. Look for this logo almost anywhere in the city. S Marts have all of the products you are used to seeing, plus, like any Mexican supermarket, many interesting food products you may have never seen before. This store is located at Ave. de la Raza and P. Elias Calles.

Rio Grande Mall - Also commonly called Futurama, the Rio Grande Mall is located at Triunfo de la Republica and Lopez Mateos. You can catch any bus from the centre with the word "Futurama" written on the windshield.

High-end shops and boutiques can be found around Avenida 16 de Septiembre and Avenida Lincoln.
