 The multitude of Westerns made in Durango has left a scattering of film sets that are not to be missed. Be sure to check with the tourist office that the set in question is available for visiting.
Villa de Oeste, which is 12km north of Durango off highway 45 was also used in a number of Westerns and the main street, Calle Howard, has been left undisturbed.
Southwest of Durango is Los Alamos, which was created as a 1940's style town and used for "Fat Man and Little Boy" in 1989 - a film starring Paul Newman. To get there, take Boulevard Arrieta due south for 30km, then take the right at the appearance of the rusty sign - from there it's a 1.5km dirt-track.
Mazatlan: The road to the coast and Mazatlan is particularly scenic, with El Salto (waterfalls, canyons, and forests), and El Espinazo del Diablo (of varied natural beauty).
Museo de Arte Guillermo Ceniceros: The recently converted Ferreria de los Flores Ironworks houses some of the collection of Guillermo Ceniceros, once student of the muralist Siquieros. Eerie landscapes and feminine forms were Ceniceros' preferred subjects. The museum is in the town La Ferreria, 4km southwest of Durango, on the road to Los Alamos.
ShoppingThere are a wide range of shops in Durango, with everything form quirky local shops to malls and you'll find most of what you need at Mercado Gomez Palacio.
