Hermosillo has plenty of architecture and historical buildings to admire and a nearby fishing village is well worth a visit.
Plaza Zaragoza: Plaza Zaragoza in central Hermosillo is a lovely place to visit at sunset, when hordes of yellow-headed blackbirds roost for the night. Facing the East on the plaza is the magnificent Cathedral de la Ascension. On the opposite side is the Palacio de Gobierno, which has fantastic murals depicting the history of Sonora.
Cerro de la Campana: The Cerro de la Campana is the central landmark in Hermosillo. The view from the top is incredible by day or night and certainly worth the walk or drive up. Also, there is the Museo de Sonora on the East side of the hill, which features exhibits on the history and anthropology of Sonora and is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
Bahia Kino: Bahia Kino is located on the coast just over 100 km from Hermosillo. The town is divided into old (fishing village) and new (holiday condos) parts, which seem to share nothing in common except the sea on one side and the desert on the other. This is an area frequented by "snowbirds" (people that visit during the winter from colder climes).
There is a museum dedicated to the Seri indigenous group, the only nomadic group in Mexico and the not so far away Isla Tiburon is a reserve owned by the Seri's, who practically populate it in its entirety.
ShoppingThere are a wide range of shops in Saltillo, with everything form quirky local shops to multi-national malls and super-stores.
