Hermosillo is a frequent pass-through for people traveling north or south. Due to its location in the middle of the Sonoran desert - 107 km away from the Sea of Cortes – the city gets very hot in the summer.
Hermosillo was founded in 1700 by Juan Bautista Scalante for the resettlement of the indigenous Pima, and has recently boomed (since the 1980's) into the large industrial capital of Sonora and a prosperous agricultural centre.
Nowadays, Hermosillo is a modern, attractive city offering a variety of activities. Its broad avenues flanked by the beautiful architecture of its monuments and plazas lets visitors explore the Historic Center, tour museums, sample delicious, traditional food, admire the local craftwork.
From here they can take a short trip to the surrounding nature reserves and enjoy one of the best tourist infrastructures in the country. |
