Going Out in Zihuatanejo

Laguna de Michigan:
Laguna de Michigan, near Zihuatanejo, is a wonderful place for communing with nature. Don’t miss the spectacular sunsets.

Museo Arqueologico de la Costa Grande:
This museum is to be found at the north end of Paseo del Pescador in Zihuatanejo, and houses exhibits on the history, archaeology, and culture of the Guerrero coast.

Playa Madera:
There exists a lighted walkway that allows easy access to this beach from the center of Zihuatanejo. The beach was at one time a major point for exportation of wood, hence the name.

Playa La Ropa:
If you continue walking on from Playa Madera for another 20 minutes, you will reach the 2km expanse of Playa La Ropa, bordered by palm trees and seafood restaurants. La Ropa is probably the most beautiful beach around Zihuatanejo, and feature a great variety of beach activities. La Ropa got its name from a shipwreck of a Spanish galleon arriving form the Philippines that washed up large quantities of clothing on the beach.

Playa Las Gatas:
Playa Las Gatas boasts a sheltered beach with some coral that makes it good for snorkeling - the beach is effectively a large rock pool. Legend has it that the Tarascan chief Calzontzin (who ruled up to Michoacan), built a stone barrier here to prevent sea creatures entering. The beach was never home to cats (gatas), but the harmless whiskered sharks that populated the area since ancient times. Boats leave Zihuatanejo Pier frequently to Las Gatas.
    

Shopping

Most store owners have a lunch break followed by a siesta. Usually their business hours are from 9:00am - 2:00pm, and 4:00pm - 8:00pm, Mondays through Saturdays. During high season, many shops extend their business hours and open on Sundays too.

Downtown Zihuatanejo offers a variety of small and medium size clothing shops, boutiques, jewelry stores and souvenirs shops.
