Xalapa has a few small clinics and hospitals and only a rare few of their staff can communicate in English, according to our partner MedToGo. Visitors with no Spanish and/ or serious complaints will struggle to get adequate treatment, and in such a case we recommend a trip to Puebla or Veracruz. As the city expands, Grupo Angeles - the biggest brand of quality hospitals in Mexico - is planning to open Hospital Angeles Xalapa to provide top of the range health services to the growing white-collar community.
CEMEV (Center for Specialized Medicine) is listed for the region but does not come recommended by MedToGo: Ruiz Cortines # 2903, Colonia Unidad Magisterial, C.P. 91020 Tel: (228) 8144500 (15 phone lines) Xalapa, Veracruz www.cemev.gob.mx

Xalapa or Jalapa (but always pronounced ha-LA-pa), the capital city of Veracruz, is sometimes referred to within Mexico as the Athens of Mexico. This seems to make reference to the focus on arts in the city, rather than the look of the place.
