Living in Los Cabos

The term “Los Cabos”, (“the capes”) refers to a tourist destination area made up primarily of one city, San José del Cabo, and one town, Cabo San Lucas.

Both are at the tip of the spectacular Baja (lower) California peninsula – a strip of land that juts into the Pacific, corralling off a 'sea' known as both the Sea of Cortés and the Gulf of California.

The area also includes the “Corridor” between Cabo San Lucas and San José, a strip of beachfront property populated by a variety of world-class resorts. The term also applies more loosely to the rugged eastern edge called East Cape. Some believe that the quaint village of Los Barriles adds a fourth destination to the general “Los Cabos” area.

Los Cabos has a population of around 120,000 people, about a quarter of the total population of the state. The climate is dry Mediterranean and the average annual temperature is a balmy 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

The local working Mexican population lives in the historic San José del Cabo, which was a part of the California Missions. The most luxurious area is the “Corridor”, while the best party scenes can be found in Cabo San Lucas at Sammy Hagar’s “Cabo Wabo” and the Marina.

For outdoors types, East Cape is the ideal, while those looking for overall peace and tranquility go to Los Barriles.
