Cinemas in Mexico City

Mexico City has no dearth of cinemas. Cinema theaters are for the most part excellent. Service, cleanliness and comfort are top notch, while the number of theaters are plentiful and the newest movies arrive almost as soon as they are released in the United States or Europe. Generally new movies begin showing on Thursdays. You can get a complete list from Primera Fila, the guide to entertainment published by the Reforma daily every Friday. You can also check out the English language paper The News or an independent entertainment weekly, Tiempo Libre.

Most movie theaters show pretty much the same blockbusters. If you want variety, we suggest Cinemex Casa de Arte, located just off Masaryk. It has four small movie theaters and shows arthouse movies from all over the world. Other than that, we suggest you check out our list of cinema clubs below. These cineclubs offer plenty of classics, as well as new films that would have finished playing in cinema theaters, and they're generally shown for one time only. The Cineteca Nacional is particularly worth checking up on, with a multitude of theaters showing dozens of movies every week.
