For the 2002 United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development held in Monterrey, U.S. President George W. Bush designated Hospital San Jose the choice for himself and his staff of over 200 highly qualified, board-certified physicians. Many doctors speak English as their second language and had received some postgraduate training in the United States, Canada or Europe. The hospital has cutting-edge technology and performs cardiovascular bypass surgeries and multiple organ transplants. A large hemodialysis center and an extremely busy bariatric surgery center are also featured. Capitalizing on its affiliation and close ties with Baylor University Medical School in Houston is Hospital Santa Engracia. This hospital boasts a staff of over 400 board-certified physicians. It is fully functional and ultra modern. It has 50 large, well-kept patient rooms, with a new floor and 24 new patient rooms planned for the very near future. The emergency room is well equipped and has a separate resuscitation room and an orthopedic exam and treatment area. It has a full service ob/gyn and pediatrics section of the hospital, as well as a pediatric intensive-care area. The only capability it lacks is cardiovascular surgery.
