If your one of those people that enjoy a great meal then you should enjoy your visit to Monterrey. There is a great variety of restaurants and the choices of cuisine available in Monterrey should satisfy everyone. You have your choice of traditional Mexican restaurants, French, Chinese, Italian, great steak houses and everything in between.
Many American chain restaurants, such as Chili's, Sirloin Stockade, Bennigan's and Applebee's have branches here and are very popular with locals and travelers alike. Many of Monterrey's restaurants feature live entertainment in the evenings, as an added pleasure for diners.
EL REY DEL CABRITO: One of the most famous restaurants in Monterrey, this restaurant's specialty —as its name suggests—is cabrito (kid goat). The other dishes, like the magnificent grilled beef cuts, should not be overlooked however. This locale is the oldest of three branches, which are all located in the city. The decor is a little excessive with stuffed animals on the walls and objects from this northern region. Still, the menu prices are not as high as other restaurants of this class and the atmosphere is informal with a mixed clientele. Contact: +52 81 8345 3232
EL GAUCHO: This is one of the recommended places to enjoy Argentine food. El Gaucho is well-known for its excellent meat. What you never know is if you will be able to finish your portion, for the plates are piled high. So, here is a piece of advice: unless you are very hungry, it is best to ask for half portions. Besides meats, their menu offers the usual dishes for this type of restaurant: side dishes, salads and turnover pies. The prices are reasonable, and the decor is not in the least ostentatious. Cuisine: South American, Contact: +52 81 8358 4218, Open Hours: 1.30p-midnight daily.
LUISIANA: Near the main hotels in Monterrey, in the downtown area of the city, we find this restaurant, where it is possible to treat yourself to innovative and succulent specialties which vary day after day. You may, for example, have a shrimp brochette in cardinal sauce, with gruyere cheese and au gratin. If you are a seafood lover, Friday is the best day of week to enjoy their specialties. The restaurant has a covered parking lot. Cuisine: Contemporary, Contact: +52 81 8340 3753, Open Hours: Midday-midnight daily
EL BARCO REGIOMONTANO: Its singular ship-shaped design is the appropriate setting for this fish and shellfish restaurant. Stuffed fillet or specialties such as the Tabasco-style Huachinango are served here. Land lovers can dine on cuts of beef and chicken served in a variety of dishes. The owners' well-known Sunday buffet includes paella, bass, chicharron and assorted meat dishes. Spacious elegance makes it a good reason to get on board. The restaurant is also available for special events. Cuisine: Fish & Seafood, Contact: +52 81 8359 6915, Open Hours: Noon-midnight Tue-Sun.
