There are quite a few things to do in Monterrey. Chipinque National Park, which borders Garza Garcia, is one such diversion, offering much cooler temperatures than in Monterrey, especially during the scorching summer months. There are some great picnic spots, hiking trails, mountain biking, dirt trails for motorcross enthusiasts and some very secluded areas with breathtaking views for those who just want some peace, quiet and seclusion.

La Estanzuela offers another secluded, verdant and pretty getaway from the city, with waterfalls and rivers adding to its general charm. The Presa de la Boca is a reservoir situated 45 minutes southeast of Monterrey and is a large reservoir where all forms of water sports can be indulged in. Just next to the town of Santiago, Mexico, the Presa de la Boca is a particularly popular spot in summer. While there, it's worth checking out the famous Cola de Caballo waterfalls.

Also about 45 minutes from Monterrey, to the southwest along the Saltillo road, lie the Grutas de Garcia, beautiful subterranean caverns that are 60 million years old.

Sports and Exercise

Monterrey offers some excellent golf and tennis clubs, though they are for the most part very private and very expensive. Some more reasonable courses include the Club de Golf - Hacienda el Mirador, and for tennis the Centro Tenistico (Tennis Center) de Nuevo Leon. Some of the best clubs are Club Hípico la Silla (Equestrian), Chipinque Raquet Club, Club de Golf Valle Alto, Club Campestre and the Deportivo Alpino Chipinque. As for gyms, Monterrey has any number of top-level gyms, including the Sports City chain. Some of the best gyms are the Arena Monterrey, Gimnasio del I.T.E.S.M., Gimnasio Nuevo Leon and the Irish Institute's gym.
