Going Out in Rocky Point

Print E-mail

ImageRocky Point is home to great beaches, bars and diving.

Hermosa Beach:
During very low tides the rocks and rock rimmed tide pools are exposed. You can explore the pools for fish, octopus, squid, shrimp, crabs, coral and colorful sea plants.

Sandy Beach:

This can be a great beach for exploring - visit the southern end where the rocks start where a variety of weird and wonderful things can be found.

Fishing:

Captain Juan takes you where the others don't, which makes him popular with veteran fisherman. If you're looking for a sight-seeing cruise head on down to Bird Island where you can watch hundreds of sea lions. In the winter months, the whale watching is spectacular.

Diving:

Adair Scuba Diving claims that due to the shallow warm waters they are able to extend their down times to 90 minutes and with so much to see in a small area, Caribbean visibility isn't necessary. This is why Puerto Penasco proves to be a great place to settle the urge to blow bubbles in salt water.

El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve & Altar Desert:
This reserve is to the northwest of Rocky Point, and boasts several extinct volcanic craters, a large lava flow, cinder cones, a cinder mine, and enormous sand dunes. Visitors must first register at the entrance, which is reached by going down a 10km gravel road heading south from a turnoff about 10km east of Los Vidrios, which is on highway 2, due north of Rocky Point.

Shopping

For minor items, many visitors use the local shops. Due to the proximity to the US border many people hop over the border for major shopping trips.
