San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato, Mexico has been named one of the 10 most visited cities in the world by several tourist magazines in Europe and the United States. San Miguel, Cultural Heritage for Humanity declared by the UNESCO on July 7, 2008 conserves its unique life style with an artistic and cultural atmosphere.
Many local customs and traditions from its colonial past have been preserved making it attractive to visitors as a favorite tourist destination and retirement heaven. San Miguel Allende is a beautiful historical colonial city located in the state of Guanajuato in the the Central part of Mexico along with the states of Queretaro, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas.
With a calendar full of events you will always find something to do. It’s calendars full of cultural and religious festivities and celebrations. Some of the main celebrations include New Years Day, King’s Day, La Candelaria, the religious rituals related to Holy Week which are impressively solemn and majestic, the Day of the Cross, Los Locos (crazy dancers), our city celebrations in September, Day of the Dead and the Christmas Posadas. There are also different festivals: movies, classical music, jazz, rock, salsa and the well known International Cervantino Festival in the capital city of the State. San Miguel is one of the few cities in Mexico which has free wireless internet service in the main square (also called el jardin), so if you have a notebook or PDA with wireless connection come to el jardin and spend all day browsing for free.
San Miguel de Allende has a wonderful spring climate all year round with hotels and bed and breakfast, in and out of the downtown area depending on the tourists' preferences with a variety of rates. If you are planning to stay for a longer period in San Miguel you can rent a house or an apartment for a short, medium or large term with the realtors in town. There are plenty of restaurants offering international and national cuisine, night clubs for all ages, and 3 major international airports close by: México City International Airport (4 hour drive), Queretaro International Airport (one hour drive), and El Bajío in León, 90 minute drive) making San Miguel Allende even more attractive for national and international tourists to visit even for just a weekend. In terms of business, it is very close to major industrial parks within easy commuting distance either in the corridor Silao-Leon or Queretaro. It has also become an arts and crafts production center supplying national and international markets.
