Going Out in Torreon

ImageWhether you’re riding sand dunes or meditating in the Zona de Silencio, there should be something to amuse you in Torreon.

Bilbao Dunes:
The Bilbao Dunes (pictured) are a phenomenon that occurred due to soil erosion, leaving a Sahara like landscape that has been used in many films. The dunes are only 45 minutes from Torreon by car and lately the area has become popular for sand-duning (like snowboarding, only on sand).

The wildlife in the area is very interesting but is rarely seen during the day, the majority of it being nocturnal. Be prepared for the extreme climate, ensure to take sun block, a hat and water.

Zona del Silencio:
There are few areas that have provoked as many theories as the Zona del Silencio (Silence Zone). They all attempt to explain why there is radio silence in the area, which scientifically is due to the magnetic properties of the area, a characteristic that is shared by the Bermuda Triangle, also located in between the 26th and 28th Parallels.

The broadly held theory is that the area shares properties with other places located between the Parallels, including the Egyptian pyramids, Cape Canaveral, and the sacred cities of Tibet.

The whole area was previously covered by the Thetis Sea and traces of this are seen in the fossils.
