Tuxtla is not a common place for expats to move to, but it offers modern amenities as well as access to various places of interest in Chiapas and a climate that doesn't get chilly, unlike the Chiapas highlands.
Tuxtla is often passed by to reach other areas of Chiapas, but it has some things worth stopping for. For nature lovers there is an excellent zoo dedicated to the fauna of Chiapas, while the nearby Sumidero Canyon offers exhilarating boat trips, and the ruins of Yaxchilan and Bonampak never fail to impress those who go there.
There are a full range of shops in Tuxtla, from modern Wal-Mart chains to local markets specializing in arts and crafts and fresh local produce. |
