Temporary Housing in Mexico

Why use Temporary Housing in Mexico?

Whether moving to Mexico by choice or because your company requires you to do so, short term housing in Mexico is often necessary to bridge the gap between arrival in a new community and finding a permanent residence. This interval can extend from a few days to several months, so any short-term move needs to be planned accordingly. Also, a common scenario in Mexico is that a project may take 6 months, but the usual minimum lease on a property is for one year. In this kind of situation, temporary housing is the answer.

Types of Short Term Housing in Mexico

For individuals and families seeking short term housing in Mexico there exist four options: regular hotels, extended stay hotel suites, corporate housing suites, and short term apartment rental.

Regular Hotels

Regular hotels are good options when you need executive housing for just a few days. Regular hotels offer full service amenities such as restaurants and daily housekeeping. Although convenient for shorter stays, these added extras can take their toll on your relocation budget in a relatively short period of time.

Extended Stay Hotel Suites

Extended stay hotel suites should be considered when you require a longer time frame for your stay. The full benefits of hotel service can be enjoyed, while offering a kitchen to prepare meals, as well as more spacious accomodation.

Corporate Housing Suites (Serviced Apartments)

Corporate housing suites are a more economical option when the benefits of room service are appreciated, but the option of prepared meals is not necessary. A suite can provide a more home-like environment by offering full kitchens and on-site laundry facilities. There are no leases to sign, no utilities to establish and suites come fully furnished, often with the option of an internet connection and cable TV. It is common that the fridge will be stocked by the staff (although you can often do this yourself as well), and sometimes services such as shopping are offered, obviously at additional cost. There are sometimes other facilities, such as a business center, also at an additional cost.

Short Term Apartment Rentals

Short term apartment rental in Mexico is an option which, although it does exist, is very rare. There are no utilities to establish and studios come fully furnished. The level of service is more austere, normally just basic cleaning with the option of laundry service.

What you need to know

Whether researching the move on your own or working with a reputable real estate company or relocation service to find temporary housing, you'll need to answer several questions:

  • What type of temporary housing best suits your needs? Are you single and only require a studio or do you have a family and require multiple bedrooms?
  • What price are you willing to pay?
  • What would be a suitable location? If children are coming along, should a school be located nearby?
  • What amenities will be required? Would you like a pool? An exercise room?
  • What about services like day care or housekeeping?
  • Is the company paying for the move and, if so, what are the relocation benefits and costs that are covered?

Once you have a good idea of the type of suite you are looking for, you can make a service request with our Certified Service Providers, by using the form below.
