Capital City of the State of Campeche, Mexico. The city is full of history, forts, pirate legends and romance, with a beautifully renovated Centro Historico considered by the UNESCO as part of the worlds cultural heritage. Architecture, colorful houses and buildings, unpaved roads and a Malecon streching 5 miles along the coast will make you feel in a relaxing almost tie traveling experience while walking he streets of Campeche’s Centro Historico.

 

Blessed with magnificent seafood fruits and a gastronomy that goes back more than 500 years, Campeche offers a never ending list of recipes to enjoy. A walk in its beautiful Malecón will be the best thing to do after lunch or dinner. Enjoy the seaside view and the small gardens and fountains you will find while walking along it. You cal also enjoy sunset and a romantic night walk under the city lights highly recommended.

 

Restaurant at Campeche Mexico Campeche used to be the principal town of the Mayan province of Ah Kin Pech, which means "serpent tick" and which was founded around the 3rd century A.D. It was fairly unknown to the western world until Spanish soldiers commanded by Francisco Hernandez de Cordova reached the village of Kin Pech in 1522 to replenish their water supply. Afraid of being attacked by the native population, they quickly left. A few days later the Europeans encountered a storm at sea, causing them to land in Champoton (40 miles south of the city of Campeche). Here, their fears were fulfilled, as they were attacked by native troops. The triumph of the Mayan forces over the Spaniards was obvious. Hernandez de Cordova was so badly wounded that he died of his wounds a few days later.

Although its incipient period (the first two centuries B.C.) is poorly understood, archaeological data show that the next two centuries (A.D. 1-200) were characterized by monumental construction, during which Teotihuacan quickly became the largest and most populous urban center in the New World. By this time, the city already appears to have expanded to approximately 20 square km, with about 60,000 to 80,000 inhabitants.
