Travel Mexico and its colorful Haciendas scattered all over the country. Historic Hacienda Vista Hermosa in Tequesquitengo, Morelos was built by Hernan Cortes during the conquest of Mexico in 1529. King Carlos V of Spain rewarded Cortes with a nobility title, 23,000 slaves and enormous extensions of land. The Hacienda was the center of economic and cultural activities and life in the region during centuries.
Because of the regions lack of iron it was entirely build of stones with the proportions of a fort, surrounded by colossal 6 feet thick walls. Inside we found the residential building, the stables and the magnificent infrastructure used to refine sugar.
The Hacienda was sold to Don Gabriel Yermo who made lost of improvements to the estate. Then it passed to Don Ignacio Romero Vargas who in 1820 sold the property to Don Manuel Vicente Vidal who’s family kept the property until 1910 when Emiliano Zapata, a revolutionary leader in central Mexico, burned the Hacienda and the alcohol and stole all the sugar that was stored. In 1945 the property in ruins was sold to Fernando Martinez y Fernando Gonzalez who rebuild the property and turned the Hacienda into the lovely hotel it is.
It is a splendid place to enjoy relaxing, reading, swimming, playing tennis, doing water sports at the lake, riding a horse through the valley or simply sleeping. The Hotel maintains the original architecture and distribution of the property as it was built in 1529. All rooms are different size and distribution. You can end sleeping in what use to be a guest room or some kind of warehouse. There are rooms with A/C and some with ceiling fans. Some have TV and some don’t so be sure to ask a room with the amenities that you want. The concept is rustic so if you are looking for a modern hotel infrastructure such as a Hilton or so this is not the place to go.
It is located 980 meters above sea level, just 25 minutes from Cuernavaca and 1 hour from Mexico City. Offers sunshine 95 percent of the year and is surrounded by 20 acres of tropical gardens and exotic birds. The average annual temperature is 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

Travel Mexico and travel in time. In Zacatecas nearly all of the city center buildings are nineteenth century or older; the topography and irregular street pattern (most streets are too steep and narrow for vehicles; many have steps in them) almost make one think of a medieval city like Toledo, Spain. The city, built on the site where silver was discovered in the 1530s, is crammed into a narrow canyon, with houses and churches perched on its nearly vertical walls.
