Cuernavaca has been a retreat for Mexico City denizens ever since colonial times. Its climate is very mild and the city well deserves the sobriquet of "Land of Eternal Spring".
Although the city continues to grow at a very rapid rate, bringing with it the concomitant headaches of traffic, smog and urban congestion (the population has reached one million), it continues to boast some of the most impressive residential areas in Mexico, being the preferred abode of many a wealthy Mexican and expatriate.
The most impressive parts of the city boasts mansions with plush lawns, spacious swimming pools and tennis courts overlooking the city. Most of these properties lie behind guarded gates, but there are certainly other attractions both within the city and with out.
