Cabo del Este, or “East Cape” is about 80 miles south of La Paz - the capital of the state of Baja California Sur (or, “South Lower California”).
East Cape stretches from the main “working” city of San José del Cabo to La Ribera. The main attractions of this area, as opposed to Cabo, are the unspoiled beaches and terrain, as well as the striking mountains and the coral reefs. East Cape is really a collection of small villages, including Los Barriles, along an amazing stretch of beachfront. People with a more “frontier” spirit flock to it to enjoy the fishing, windsurfing and diving
Spending time in East Cape is like going back in time, and fishing is what really gave this area its reputation. From early summer all the way to December there is great fishing in the area, from ubiquitous marlin to rooster fish, yellowtail and tuna.
