Visitors to the city can take a stroll round one of its four beautiful parks, or if you’re up for something little racier there is white-water rafting to enjoy.
Museo de Antropología: This renowned museum has everything from giant Olmec head statues to codices. It’s located at 4km to the northwest of the city center, on Avenida Xalapa. 9:00 - 17:00.
Galería de Arte Contemporaneo: Part of the thriving cultural scene, this state-run gallery houses temporary exhibitions in a beautiful colonial building. 10:00-15:00, 17:00-20:00, Tuesday to Thursday. Pinacoteca Diego Rivera: This is a museum under Parque Juárez and to get to it, it’s necessary to descend the steps on the west side of the plaza. Exhibited are a mix of Rivera's work and that of other Mexican artists. 10:00-18:00, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00-12:00, Saturday.
Parks: Xalapa features four parks, with Centro Cultural de los Lagos and Parque Paseo de los Lagos on the north and south sides of Parque Juárez, respectively. The Parque Ecológico Mauiltéptl is situated on an extinct volcano to the north of the city, and is very popular with joggers. To the southwest of the town is the Jardín Botánico Clavijero, with a great collection of subtropical plants.
White-Water Rafting: There are a range of tour operators for rafting, with some of them combining other activities such as rock-climbing.

Americas standouts as the most exclusive mall of the four selling brands such as Kenneth Cole, Hugo Boss among other top-selling labels.
A visit to the Museo de Antropología de Xalapa (MAX) is a great day activity if you are traveling through central Veracruz. The museum, of international renown, has over 2,500 items on display from the Olmec, Totonaca and Huaxtec cultures, as well as other indigenous groups that form the rich heritage of what is now Veracruz.
The building and grounds themselves are a pleasure to walk through. Designed by Edward, Durell and Stone of New York, the complex has received landscape architecture awards from both...
Xalapa has a few small clinics and hospitals and only a rare few of their staff can communicate in English, according to our partner MedToGo. Visitors with no Spanish and/ or serious complaints will struggle to get adequate treatment, and in such a case we recommend a trip to Puebla or Veracruz.

Cheaper real estate prices compared to nearby state capital Veracruz and an attractive climate have seen investors increasingly buying up land in the area. Developments as far as 60km from the city center are almost sold out and new building projects are already underway.

Xalapa or Jalapa (but always pronounced ha-LA-pa), the capital city of Veracruz, is sometimes referred to within Mexico as the Athens of Mexico. This seems to make reference to the focus on arts in the city, rather than the look of the place.
