Hospital San Jose, Tec de Monterrey is one of the top four or five medical institutions we encountered in all of Mexico. For the 2002 United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development held in Monterrey, U.S. President George W. Bush designated Hospital San Jose the choice for himself and his staff of over 200 highly qualified, board-certified physicians. Many doctors speak English as their second language and had received some postgraduate training in the United States, Canada or Europe. The hospital has cutting-edge technology and performs cardiovascular bypass surgeries and multiple organ transplants. A large hemodialysis center and an extremely busy bariatric surgery center are also featured. Close affiliation to the leading medical school makes this one of the leading research centers in the country.

Capitalizing on its affiliation and close ties with Baylor University Medical School in Houston is Hospital Santa Engracia. This hospital boasts a staff of over 400 board-certified physicians. It is fully functional and ultra modern. It has 50 large, well-kept patient rooms, with a new floor and 24 new patient rooms planned for the very near future. The emergency room is well equipped and has a separate resuscitation room and an orthopedic exam and treatment area. It has a full service ob/gyn and pediatrics section of the hospital, as well as a pediatric intensive-care area. The only capability it lacks is cardiovascular surgery.

A very impressive figure, Dr. Perez resembles the famous Mexican revolutionary, Emiliano Zapata. He is an extremely friendly and outgoing physician, as well as very experienced and comptent. Dr. Perez attended medical school at the Hospital Civil Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon and completed his residency at the IMSS hospital in San Jose. Dr. Perez is the president of the Critical Care Medical Association of Northeast Mexico.

Dr. Ponce de Leon attended medical school at the Universidad de la Salle and completed his residency at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. He completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology in Vigo, Spain. Dr. Ponce de Leon is widely published in several Mexican medical journals and is an instructor of medicine and cardiology in several Monterrey hospitals. He speaks fluent English and is a confident and capable physician.
