San Miguel has a very vibrant nightlife that attracts people from all over central Mexico. Most of the best spots are both restaurants and bars, and there is also live music and some pretty good nightclubs. The most famous spot is Mama Mia located right in the heart of town (Umaran 8) and offers a complex of bars, live music, terraces, restaurant, dancing, all without letting it become too tacky. Right next door to Mama Mia is the Fragua restaurant bar, the Cielo nightclub (which is in the same building), the raucous and often packed Grito, and Char Rock Café, offering live rock music.
In terms of eating out, San Miguel has some good traditional food, with El Establo providing a good mix of Mexican and Spanish cuisine, particularly good for those post-drink munchies. Mama Mia offers a restaurant with some decent Mexican food, and a very lively, bustling atmosphere with live music. Rincon Español (Correo 29) offers good Spanish dishes while La Grotta (Cuadrante 5) offers some good Italian food, with particularly tasty pizza. Overall, however, restaurants in San Miguel leave a bit to be desired.
