San Miguel de Allende holds all the charm of a traditional Mexican city, with a flavor of modern society. The expatriate population is considered to have reached 5,000 out of a total population of 80,000. San Miguel is considered to be a veritable haven for retirees, an extended American retirement community lives here, but also offers famous art school programs that tend to drawn in a younger crowd to San Miguel de Allende. This town tends to balance the young, old, retired and world traveler all in one, making it a very flavorful city.

San Miguel features some excellent hotels and luxury posadas. Perfect for a romantic get-away, and probably the nicest (and also the most expensive) hotel in San Miguel, is the Casa de Sierra Nevada, situated just near the town center above the local park, shaded amid lush verdant trees. Other excellent hotels and posadas include the Posada San Francisco, the Posada de la Aldea, La Mansion del Bosque, and also Los Aristos San Miguel. All are located near the center of town.
