ZOOMAT or Miguel Alvarez del Toro Zoo: This is a great zoo to visit if you want to see the range of animal species in Chiapas (it boasts the highest concentration in North America). The zoo is orientated towards environmentalism, and houses ocelots, jaguars, tapirs, red macaws, toucans, rattlesnakes, a boa constrictor, spider monkeys, a monkey eating harpy eagle, and a pair of the very rare quetzal birds. Open 9:30 - 17:30 hrs, Tuesday through Sunday (free on Sundays). Located on Cerro Hueco.
Yaxchilan: The archeological site of Yaxchilan is situated on the banks of the River Usumacinta, which was the main vehicular route for the Mayans. The location really is splendid, elevated above the river banks in the depths of the Lacandon Jungle. The development covers a great area, including a plethora of buildings that are now over two thousand years old. There are now various options offered for eco-tourism in the area.
Bonampak: There are extensive fresco depictions of codices on the interior of the buildings, which are now over two thousand years old. Eco-tourism is common-place in this area.

Tuxtla has a variety of shops, with everything from markets with exquisite handcrafts, to multi-international supermarkets.
Bars and Nightclubs
Baby Rock Part of the Baby O' chain that was first made famous in Acapulco, this place might be where the "jetset" of Tuxtla goes out.
MedToGo doesn't recommend any health facilities in Tuxtla Gutierrez, although there is one facility listed for the city. It might be worth traveling further a field for better treatment.
Tuxtla is not a common place for expats to move to, but it offers modern amenities as well as access to various places of interest in Chiapas and a climate that doesn't get chilly, unlike the Chiapas highlands.
