Within the last decade the Mexican pacific coast has become a hot spot for U.S. and Canadian baby boomers seeking to buy their retirement home, be it next to a golf course, a marina or on the beach.
Two popular locations for many who want to live out their final years under the sun are the cities of Mazatlan which sits just across from the southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula and Puerto Vallarta which is on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahia de Banderas coast.
Mazatlan comes from the Nahuatl word meaning “place of the deer” and boasts some of the finest beaches in the state of Sinaloa. With a population of around 350,000, the city has a thriving sea culture and is Mexico’s largest commercial port.
Puerto Vallarta is smaller in comparison with a population of 177,000 and is the fifth-largest city in the state of Jalisco.
As well as potential retirees, “snowbirds” – Canadian nationals who spend their winter months vacationing in Mexico – are also attracted to these idyllic cities, drawn by the high-end developments that have sprung up there in the past few years.
One such development company which operates in both cities has expanded its portfolio by specifically targeting expatriates who are looking to purchase by the beach, marina or golf course.
Impulsa Inmuebles has built more than 2,500 homes and condominiums with a market value of more than 150 million dollars since its inception in 1990. The Sinaloa-based company has recently built three developments in Mazatlan and one in Puerto Vallarta: a high rise apartment building literally yards away from the beach; an upscale condominium complex next to a golf course; a mid-range retiree complex that is situated by one of Mazatlan’s best marinas; and a gated community for the family in Puerto Vallarta.
Tenerife Condominiums, which sits opposite the El Cid Mega resort, is the first of Impulsa’s developments on Mazatlan’s golden coastline. It contains 42 luxury units, ranging from two to three bedrooms, all of which overlook El Cid’s 27-hole golf course.
In fact, Tenerife home owners have full access to El Cid’s facilities which include a well-appointed marina with private docks for sail boats and yachts, an athletic club with tennis and squash courts, plus a swimming pool, spa, restaurant, bar and clubhouse. The front nine of the resort’s golf course were designed by the legendary golfer Lee Trevino.
If you are looking for a breathtaking sea view, Horizon Sky Residences is a high rise building that looks out onto Mazatlan’s waterfront from the city’s main street, Del Mar Avenue.
Each of the apartments in this 20,000-feet complex has been kitted out with the latest in modern furnishings while to give a feeling of spaciousness all ceilings are 9’ 2” high.
Standing literally yards away from the Pacific Ocean, Horizon Sky Residences allows residents instant access to the countless water sports Mazatlan’s shoreline has to offer be it snorkelling, scuba-diving or parasailing.
If a more peaceful setting suits your profile then Impulsa’s Marina Gardens is the perfect riposte to the noisy beachfront lifestyle. Situated close to Marina Mazatlan, which is popular with experienced yachtsmen, Marina Gardens is a housing complex that has been built specifically with retirees in mind.
As baby boomers stand on the verge of retirement in the United States and Canada, developments like Marina Gardens are a logical conclusion to the huge demand for high-end housing in the nation’s popular coastal resorts largely driven by the allure of Mexico’s culture and lower cost of living.
Taking that into consideration, the residences in Marina Gardens are distinguished by their contemporary Mexican style, with cosy interior spaces that provide comfort and snugness. The facilities are also first class. The development comes with controlled access, hydraulic concrete streets, underground utilities, green areas, swimming pool, palapas (a bar / restaurant that is open-sided and thatched with palm leaves) and a children’s playground.
In Puerto Vallarta, Impulsa has created a gated community especially aimed at families who would prefer to spend their vacations in their own home as opposed to a hotel or a time-share apartment. Las Moras has been designed to provide all the creature comforts a family needs on holiday while ensuring peace of mind with round the clock security.
Impulsa has created four markedly different developments in these popular coastal resorts with a view to reach out to the vast spectrum of expatriates who are relocating to Mexico. However, in spite of the architectural differences, the common thread running through these developments is the high standard of quality and intelligent planning that lies behind their creation.
